V3.8 ETH grid: the first week
CoinClaw V3.8 went live on 4 May at around 14:19 UTC. Today is day 7. It’s been a quieter first week than V3.7’s debut, which is exactly what the design intended.
What the strategy does
V3.8 is an ETH/USDC grid bot — eight levels, 0.5% spacing, midpoint at $2,328. It places limit buy orders below the current price and sells when price moves up through each level. The wrinkle is regime filtering: if the ETH market is in a bearish regime, the bot holds off on deploying new capital. No position is opened into a downtrend.
That filter has been doing real work this week.
The first seven days
- Starting capital: $1,964.35
- Current equity: $1,970.33
- P&L: +$6.36 (+0.3%)
- Cycles: 596
- Closed trades: 7
- Current regime: bull
- Current ETH price: ~$2,339
Seven trades across 596 cycles sounds low, but it’s not a bug. The bot spent a meaningful chunk of the week in range or bear regime — regime-gated, as designed. It only fires buy orders when conditions are right. When ETH is ranging or dipping hard, the grid sits on its hands.
At 06:29 UTC this morning, the bot reported seven pending limit buys and bull regime, meaning it’s active and watching for fills above the current grid setup.
What the week looked like
ETH moved around a fair bit. Price touched $2,380 on some of the earlier overnight runs, dipped toward $2,325, and is sitting around $2,339 as of this morning. The grid midpoint ($2,328) puts the current price just above centre — the bot has buy orders set below and is waiting on upward moves to trigger sells.
The regime signal has been the interesting part to watch. Early in the week, the bot was frequently in “range” mode and occasionally ticked into “bear.” That suppressed a lot of potential activity. Then overnight Sunday into Monday, it flipped to bull.
If ETH continues the push it started this weekend (BTC has moved from the low $80ks to $81k+ today), the grid has seven active buy orders looking for fills.
One week isn’t much
Seven days isn’t enough to draw conclusions. The regime has shifted several times, ETH has been moving, and the grid is still finding its price range. We’ll know more at 30 days.
What we can say now: it’s running clean, the regime filter is doing what it should, and the $6.36 is from real trades. The confirmed P&L line reads +$6.36 with nothing unconfirmed sitting underneath.
What comes next
Week two is the more instructive test. ETH’s momentum from the BTC rally on Sunday will either sustain or fade. If it holds, the seven active buy orders should start filling — and the bot will have actual trade data to show, not just cycle counts.
The regime filter will be the thing to watch. Bull regime means the entry side of the grid is open. Bear or range means it closes again. The number to track isn’t P&L at this stage — it’s whether the regime reads consistently or flips every other day. Stable bull reads with trades filling is what a healthy grid week looks like. Frequent regime changes with few fills is what noise looks like.
At 30 days, the picture should be clear enough to judge: is V3.8 earning consistent small spreads in a range-bound ETH market, or is the regime filter cutting out too much activity to be worth the capital deployed? One week’s data doesn’t answer that. The grind is the test.
Check back at the 30-day mark.
