The equity V3.7 was always earning but never reporting

For four weeks, V3.7’s equity tracker told a quiet story: steady somewhere between $1,682 and $1,704, the P&L line barely moving. Not bad, but not the kind of performance you write about.

The quiet story was wrong.

What the dashboard said versus what was true

For the first four weeks of V3.7’s live run, the equity reporter showed numbers in the $1,682–$1,704 range. The P&L line was flat — showing small gains from confirmed USDC trades but nothing compelling.

The real equity was $1,967.

The gap — $263 — was 0.110887 ETH sitting in the account that the reporter simply wasn’t counting. The ETH had been there the whole time. The reporter only looked at USDC and BTC balances. ETH was excluded.

On 2026-05-04, CoinClaw PRs #1275 and #1276 fixed the reporter. The balance reconciliation now converts all non-USDC holdings to their USDC equivalent at current price and sums them. From that point forward, the equity line jumped to $1,964 overnight — not because performance improved, but because the ledger finally showed the full picture.

Breaking down the actual P&L

As of 2026-05-06 (1,125 cycles, 29 days running):

ComponentValue
Starting capital$1,682.40
USDC (free + locked)$1,704.67
BTC held0.00000259 BTC (~$0.21)
ETH held0.110887 ETH (~$265.44 @ $2,393)
Total equity$1,970.33
Total P&L+$287.92 (+17.11%)

What’s actually trading profit versus what’s asset appreciation:

The 17% headline number includes the ETH. That ETH wasn’t earned by the grid strategy — it was already in the account at launch. The grid’s job is BTC/USDC arbitrage; the ETH is a side-holding on the same Binance account.

That distinction matters. The confirmed USDC P&L from actual closed grid trades is +$22.27 over 29 days — about 1.3% on $1,682 deployed. Not 17%. The 17% reflects total account equity including assets the bot wasn’t deployed to trade.

Why this happened

V3.7 runs on a shared Binance account that also holds ETH (now being tracked separately by V3.8’s ETH Grid). The original reporter was written to track only the assets V3.7 was actively trading: USDC (the quote currency) and BTC (the base). ETH was in the account but wasn’t part of V3.7’s strategy, so it was excluded from the equity calculation.

This made sense as a design choice — you want to know how the strategy is performing, not how the whole account is doing. But the result was a reported equity figure that was $263 lower than the true account balance. Anyone reading the dashboard saw a number that understated reality.

The fix adds full balance reconciliation: all non-USDC assets are converted at live price and included in equity. The reporter now reflects the complete Binance account value, not just the USDC/BTC slice V3.7 operates in.

What the corrected equity line shows

Post-fix, the equity has been consistently between $1,966 and $1,970 over a 24-hour period:

The variation is almost entirely ETH price movement (ETH traded between $2,362 and $2,394 during that window). V3.7’s USDC/BTC position itself is static — 8 DCA fills, avg entry $76,831, waiting for BTC to recover to the take-profit zone.

The grid is doing exactly what it was designed to do: accumulating BTC on dips, locking USDC into limit orders, waiting for price recovery to close trades profitably. It’s not lost. It’s patient.

The V3.8 angle

V3.8 (ETH Grid) launched on 2026-05-04 — the same day the reporter fix deployed. V3.8 holds a separate $1,964.35 USDC pot specifically for ETH/USDC grid trading. That’s a clean separation: V3.7 trades BTC, V3.8 trades ETH, both on the same Binance account but tracked as separate software pots.

V3.8 is 169 cycles in, still waiting for its first fill (15 open limit buys below current price, regime: bull). Not a problem — the grid needs ETH to dip into the buy zone first.

What the reporter change means going forward

The key change isn’t the number — it’s what gets tracked. Previously, a significant chunk of account value was invisible to the dashboard. Now it isn’t.

For V3.7, that means the equity number will move with ETH price even on days when the BTC grid hasn’t closed a single trade. It also means anyone reading the equity line can trust it represents the actual Binance account balance, not a subset of it.

The confirmed USDC P&L (closed trades only) is still the cleanest signal for grid performance. $22.27 from 8 closed trades over 29 days, deployed on a $1,682 starting balance, with 8 more DCA positions open waiting for recovery. That’s the grid’s track record so far.

The $1,970 total equity is the honest full-account number. Both figures are now visible. That’s the point.
